Nominations are underway for the 15th annual Stefanie's Champions awards at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center -- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital & Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

Established in 2000 by former OSUCCC -- James breast cancer patient Stefanie Spielman and her husband, Chris, Stefanie's Champions honors those whose dedication and strength have been powerful influences in the lives of cancer survivors. The first "Champion" award was given by Stefanie to Chris, who put his professional football career on hold to care for her throughout her experience with breast cancer.

Champions can be nominated by any cancer survivor, regardless of whether the survivor received treatment at the OSUCCC -- James. Honorees are selected by a national award committee composed of business and community leaders, patients and faculty at the OSUCCC-James.

Champion nominees should exemplify the qualities and values that were important to Stefanie and her family, including putting families first, demonstrating acts of kindness and dedication to the cancer patient and elevating a patient's cancer treatment and recovery needs above other personal needs. Award nomination categories include:

* Caregiver -- This category is for people who have gone "above and beyond" to help a patient during his or her cancer journey. This includes medical staff, family members, coworkers and friends. Three honorees will be selected for the 2014 award.

* Community Partner -- This category recognizes a company, organization or individual who has raised or is raising money on behalf of the OSUCCC-- James to support cancer research and patient care programs. One honoree will be selected for the 2014 award.

* Corporate Champion -- This category honors a for-profit company for its contributions, volunteer/community advocacy, employee board service or other contributions toward fulfilling the OSUCC -- James' mission of creating a cancer free world. One honoree will be selected for the 2014 award.
