A trio of chefs is in the midst of transforming the former Sage American Bistro space in the University District.
Jarod Norris, Tyler Minnis and Daniel Scalza said they plan to open Angry Bear Kitchen at the former bistro site, 2653 N. High St., in late February.
Scalza said the restaurant will specialize in a “new American” menu, an frequently changing bill-of-fare offering affordable dishes using seasonal, sustainable ingredients.
They are working on some cosmetic changes, while opening up the kitchen a tad and reworking the bar in the 2,100-square-foot space, which will seat about 70.
While the three were working at Latitude 41, they earned the nickname “angry bear” because of their occasional sour demeanors in the kitchen, something they took with good humor, Scalza said.
