*Columbus rocker Erica Blinn is set to release her new record, Lovers in the Dust, on Jan. 28. The official album-release show will be at Woodlands Backyard on Jan. 31.
Part Joan Jett, part Bonnie Raitt, Blinn rocks with enough blues and even country to garner wide appeal. This record has all sorts of potential, as Blinn and her band, The Handsome Machine, storm the Midwest throughout early 2014.
Tickets for the Jan. 31 show, which also features New Albany native and guitar whiz Aaron Lee Tasjan, are $10. Visit woodlandsbackyard.com or ericablinn.com.
*Tasjan, who makes his home in Nashville and still fronts the New York-based Madison Square Gardeners, has big news of his own.
He's got a record coming out, his debut solo EP Crooked River Burning. He was just named lead guitarist for veteran rockers Drivin n Cryin. And he just played a gig at the Kennedy Center as part of an ASCAP program highlighting up-and-coming songwriters.
He's at aaronleetasjan.com.
*In other local woman-rocker news, Angela Perley, of The Howlin' Moons, just released a full-length record titled Hey Kid. The lead single, Hurricane, features a video shot at a host of local spots with local musicians, artists and the like.
The band's next hometown gigs are Feb. 13 at the Upper Arlington Public Library and Feb. 15 at Natalie's Coal-Fired Pizza. Check out angelaperley. com.
*Rising nu-soul singer Renee Dion will be featured in the next "Backstage at the Lincoln" concert on Jan. 23.
These concerts find audiences seated on stage at the Lincoln Theatre for an intimate performance at the cool East Long Street hall. Two "Backstage" gigs are scheduled during February.
Tickets are $10. Visit capa.com.
*Depending on your personality type, and perhaps your level of desire to check out Broadway smash The Book of Mormon when it tours to Columbus in May, it's either whew still two weeks until tickets go on sale or holy cow only two weeks until tickets go on sale.
