Minerva Park voters reject income-tax hike

The Franklin County Board of Elections had one issue on the ballot in a special election Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Voters in one precinct in the village of Minerva Park, just south of Westerville, rejected doubling the village’s income tax from 1 to 2 percent to pay for general services, according to Ben Piscitelli, elections board public-information officer.

Unofficial results show 166 votes, or 48.26 percent, for the increase and 178 votes, or 51.74 percent, against it. The totals include five absentee votes. No provisional ballots were cast.

The voter turnout represents 33.72 percent of 1,023 eligible voters.

The board of elections will certify Tuesday’s election results on or before Feb. 18.
