Shanes Gourmet Catering on Columbus' South Side has gone dark.

Shanes Gourmet Catering on Columbus' South Side has gone dark.

The owners, in a prepared statement, said they are divesting holdings in central Ohio to focus on other ventures in California. That means the catering base of operations at 447 E. Livingston Ave. is in negotiations to be sold to an investment group, said Brendan O'Neill, spokesman for the O'Neill family, which opened the facility.

The investment group's intentions for the land will be known and announced in the coming weeks, O'Neill said.

The business was founded in 1976 as Evergreen Quality Catering to serve the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

In 1997, the company became Shane's Gourmet Market, making prepared meals to go. The apostrophe later was dropped from the name.

"It has been a pleasure planning events and catering to the culinary needs of our clients in central Ohio and around the country," O'Neill said.

He said the family would begin focusing its time and resources on EIRTH Systems LLC, a payment-processing business it started five years ago in California.

The market's closing could mean the relocation of Cloak & Dagger, a murder-mystery dinner theater that operated out of the venue for several years. No one from Cloak & Dagger immediately could be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, auctioneer Paul Delphia, known as the restaurant undertaker, will hold an online auction on Shanes' equipment between Jan. 10 and 19 at pauldelphia.com.
