Democrat Heather Bishoff is leading the race against Republican Nathan Burd in a bid for the Ohio House of Representatives’ 20th District seat.
At press deadline, Bishoff was leading by a vote of 25,292 to 17,997 with 88 of 107 precincts reporting.
“I decided to run for Statehouse because I care about the community I raise my family in,” she told ThisWeek. “School funding is a divisive issue. I have an opportunity to work with as many people as possible to fix this for the community and Ohio once and for all. I think others are just as concerned as I am about this issue.”
Bishoff and Burd are both newcomers in vying for the new 20th District. State Rep. Nancy Garland (D-New Albany) decided not to seek a third term as representative of the district after the communities she has been serving were divided among three House districts following the 2010 census.
Bishoff is a current Gahanna-Jefferson school board member, while Burd is a Reynoldsburg City Council member.
