Worthington schools’ excellence deserves support

To the editor:

Given the excellent reputation of Worthington schools, we chose to live and raise our sons in this community 25 years ago. They started here in kindergarten, graduated from Worthington Kilbourne High School and at every step had committed teachers, caring counselors and dedicated administrators.

It pleases me to know that the tradition of excellence continues. Our sons each received wonderful educational opportunities and were very well-prepared for college. That’s exactly why we made our decision to live in Worthington. I am aware that the Worthington school district has cut $3 million from the budget since 2009, including 40 staff positions and some special programs.

As an empty-nester, I feel strongly that we all need to support our community by helping our school district maintain the quality and reputation of Worthington schools. I remember fondly the Old Worthington Days field trips, science fairs, cheering on the teams and band concerts, and I know that these school experiences – and so many – provided a solid foundation for our sons.

Our investment in the Worthington school district has paid off with the success of our sons. I will vote in support of Issues 53 and 54 to maintain excellence in our schools for current and future students.
