Golden Bears made band feel welcome

To the editor:

On Friday, Sept. 14, I had the opportunity to witness one of the most tremendous outpourings of support I have ever seen.

I would like to thank the community, particularly those attending the football game at Upper Arlington High School, for their boisterous and uplifting show of support for the Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band.

The OSSBMB is the only blind marching band in the country. Under the direction of Carol Agler and Dan Kelley, the band has been in existence since 2005. As many readers will likely know, the OSSBMB has had the privilege of marching in the 2010 Rose Parade and is hoping to receive an invitation back to Pasadena for the 2014 parade

As parents and teachers of the kids who comprise the OSSBMB, we know they work very hard to put on a show that demonstrates their ability to overcome their disability. They appreciated being invited to show the UA community what they can do and how they shine.

Thank you all so much for your spirit and enthusiasm -- it definitely came through. On a personal level, I could see the smile on my daughter's face as she came off the field and I knew it was due to the awesome reception from the Golden Bears.
