To the Editor:

In speaking with my fellow "empty-nester" friends, many ask why I am supporting the Dublin schools levy.

To me, what it all comes down to is this: Good schools are at the heart of our community -- they keep our home values strong and are why families and businesses choose to locate in Dublin.

Dublin schools have earned our trust and I believe it when our schools say this levy is needed.

Just consider their strong fiscal track record -- Dublin schools have tightened their belt by reducing the budget by over $15 million since 2007 and all teachers have agreed to pay freezes on their base pay through the 2013-2014 school year.

Dublin schools have received the "Making Your Taxpayer Dollars Count Award" 12 times since 1995 and our schools have earned 17 straight annual Certificates of Achievement in Financial Planning, the highest level of commendation that a school district can earn in Ohio for fiscal management.

Supporting our schools and voting for Issue 48 makes sense.

As a taxpayer, I believe Dublin schools provide an excellent return on my investment. They really are the "glue" that holds our community together.

We've seen elsewhere what happens when the schools slide. Let's not have that happen here. Please vote FOR Issue 48.
