To the Editor:

I attended Barrington, Jones, and graduated from UAHS, and I am proud of our great school system. However, proponents of this levy are not being forthright.

School employees have actually continued to receive annual step pay raises, and today the average UA teacher's annual compensation is nearly $105,000. The school levy will tack on an additional $572 to the tax bill of the average Arlington home.

This levy is not going to improve our schools; it is only going to further improve the wealth of those employed there.

I am an engineer, currently unemployed for the second time in five years. My story is all too common today, and like so many others, I simply cannot afford to increase the wealth of wealthy people right now. Our fine schools are not at all in need of additional funding at this time.

Please say no to Issue 51, so that those of us who are struggling to make ends meet can hang on a little longer.
