To the Editor:

My name is Mike Collins and I would like to take this opportunity to remind people about voting and its importance in our country.

Your vote is your voice as an American citizen, it is an opportunity to be heard, an opportunity to hold your elected officials accountable, or tell them that you support them.

It is your say in important issues affecting your local community, the state of Ohio, and the United States.

I hope that everyone has already registered to vote for the Nov. 6 election, as every year we all hear the dreaded news that voter turnout in the country is on the downslide.

I highly encourage you to tell your neighbors, friends, and co-workers to vote, either absentee or at the polls on Election Day.

Make sure you tell them to go down the ballot and vote for every position and every issue. Even a position that seems directly unimportant to your life can make a huge difference on your community.

Also as parents we can all teach our children to vote. I encourage you to teach your children about voting and the importance of voting.

Take them to the polls with you or show them how you fill out an absentee ballot. Kids Voting: Central Ohio (kidsvotingoh. org) is a great organization that is involved with many central Ohio school districts in teaching middle and high school students about the importance of voting.

I highly encourage you to visit and learn more about their organization.

No matter how young or how old, voting is a civic responsibility that Americans get to enjoy every year, and take for granted every year. Be sure to vote on Nov. 6 and teach your children about the importance of voting in every race!
