To the editor:

I was truly astonished to see the advertisement in The Dublin Villager Nov. 8, by a local jewelry store advertising "Buy her a diamond and receive a free rifle or gun" with a picture of a gun on the advertisement.

I find the ad very offensive.

Unfortunately, this advertisement was published the very day that Gabby Giffords and other victims faced their attacker in a courtroom in Arizona.

Further, we in Ohio have been touched by senseless killings both daily on our streets and also a mass shooting just this year in a high school in Chardon, Ohio.

While I respect the right of people to own guns, what does it say about our society, the jewelry company and the newspaper that runs an ad about getting a free gun or rifle when you buy a diamond?

Can this jewelry store not sell their diamonds based on their value alone?

Will the grocery stores be next? "Buy Groceries here and receive a gun or rifle."

For my part I will never purchase anything from that store.
