To the editor:

I want to express my gratitude to the community for approving Worthington City Schools' incremental operating levy and no-new-millage bond issue Nov. 6. Passage of these two issues has provided the means necessary to protect the great work occurring in our schools and to keep our entire community moving in a positive direction.

The Worthington Board of Education and district staff continue striving to provide high-quality, innovative education in a cost-effective manner for our community's children, and we understand that with approval of these issues comes tremendous responsibility.

As educators, we are committed to ensuring that our students have access to up-to-date learning materials and skilled educators in well-maintained, safe facilities. As stewards of their tax dollars, we remain committed to ensuring that those dollars are spent wisely.

Because of the community's commitment to our students, we continue to make commendable strides in excellence. Recently, the Ohio Academy of Science bestowed upon Kilbourne Middle School and Thomas Worthington High School the Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. Kilbourne Middle School was one of only 12 schools in the state to earn a perfect score.

Our student-created anti-bully group, "One Leg at a Time," accepted an invitation to present at the National Bully Prevention Conference in Orlando, Fla., and our Thomas Worthington High School boys and girls water polo teams advanced to the state final four. With the community's support, together we will continue to build upon these successes.

On behalf of our students, staff and school board, my administrative team and I extend our sincere thanks to the voters for approving Issues 53 and 54. I am proud to be part of a community that supports our schools.
