Firearms must remain absent from school buildings

To the Editor:

Providing students with an educational environment free of dangerous firearms must be preserved.

Signs declaring schools as "weapon free" have been posted on the front door of every Hilliard school my children have attended.

Allowing teachers to have guns in school is counterintuitive to the kind of civilized society we want to live in.

In a country with almost 312 million people and estimated gun ownership ranging from 190 to 300 million guns, we do not need more of them.

And when it comes to our schools, we don't need guns at all.
