Liberty Township

Vote yes now to avoid EMS layoffs, higher insurance costs

To the Editor:

It saddens me to know that both Liberty Township fire stations will close and all their employees will be laid off if the emergency fire levy fails Feb. 5.

Funding ran out Dec. 31. Not only will we lose the outstanding services we have grown accustomed to, but our homeowners insurance will likely go up, and our property values will likely go down, due to a predicted change in the Insurance Services Office rating for the community. I urge everyone to vote for the levy Feb. 5 so we do not lose these services.

Since February is not our usual voting month, it will be easy to forget to go vote. Thus, early voting has started. The walk-in voting center is open for the special election at the Board of Developmental Disabilities Center located at 149 E. Orange Road. Next time you are near U.S. Route 23 and Orange, I encourage you to swing by and vote.

I feel blessed that we have such an outstanding fire-EMS department. I hope you never need those services, but if you found yourself needing fire or EMS, would you want someone there to help you?

If you would like more information on the levy, visit saveourservices.info. You may also "like" them on Facebook at facebook.com/libertypowellfirelevy2013. For those who like Twitter, you may "follow" @SOSFireLevy.

Please go vote now or on Feb. 5 to save our fire-EMS services. Spread the word.
