GRIN thankful for community's support

To the Editor:

Gahanna Residents In Need wants to thank the citizens of Gahanna for their support during a challenging and successful 2012.

GRIN is a small, all-volunteer organization that depends solely on the generosity of the community to be able to help give a boost to those in need right here in Gahanna. Our faith in this community was not misplaced during the past 12 months.

Gahanna gave to GRIN. There were concerts given on our behalf and silent auctions and fundraisers. We received checks from churches and businesses. Gahanna schools wowed us with food drives and fundraisers.

We got free use of a truck for our Thanksgiving grocery trip and the donation of boxes in which to pack the food. And there were checks of all sizes from the wonderful citizens of Gahanna.

GRIN gave to Gahanna. Because of this generosity, GRIN was able to provide 100 Thanksgiving dinner boxes, $1,000 for school supplies and $1,300 for camp scholarships for local children in need.

GRIN gave gift certificates for families to buy Easter food and treats and took "Welcome Spring" gift bags to the residents of our HUD senior housing venues.

GRIN volunteers made up and gave 621 boxes of food through our food pantry -- that's approximately 21,000 pounds of nonperishables. And GRIN paid an amazing $55,675 toward utility and rent bills to give our residents a helping hand when times were tough.

Thank you, Gahanna. We appreciate everything you do to help us help our neighbors.
