To the Editor:

I would like to recognize two Franklin County deputy sheriffs, Sgt. Charley Brown and Cpl. Samuel Byrd, for their excellent leadership and dedication to public service.

I am a recent graduate of both the Citizens Academy and the Central Ohio Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Academy, organized and taught by Sgt. Brown and Cpl. Byrd. They have dedicated much of their time and effort to ensuring the success of these programs.

Their comprehensive knowledge and experience in the field provide instant credibility and enhance their approach to instruction.

I would also like to commend the Franklin County Sheriff's Office for providing disaster-preparedness training opportunities to everyday citizens. Through these programs, the sheriff's office is empowering others to create and prepare their own plan of action in the event of a disaster. In addition, a team of volunteers is being trained to provide assistance to first responders and law enforcement.

I would encourage anyone who would like to know more about creating their own plan of action or being part of Franklin County's disaster preparedness plan to visit the sheriff's website, under programs (sheriff.franklincountyohio.gov), for more information on upcoming classes and availability.
