To the Editor:

I want to commend the Council for Older Adults and the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities for their excellent job of recruiting citizens to write letters petitioning Delaware County residents to support their levies.

No one has petitioned me to write this letter. I write it as an older adult and a property owner urging citizens to vote against the levies. I find it ironic that the COA touts giving older people choices so they can stay in their own home. Did they ever stop to think that these numerous property tax levies are taxing the same older people out of their homes?

I would gladly support an earned income tax or a sales tax. Property owners are footing the bill for too many public entities. We are being punished for being successful and owning property. Please don't look at it as your duty to vote for more taxes. It's OK to vote against all property tax levies.
