To the Editor:
American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) had the opportunity to bring the AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall to Johnstown earlier this month. We'd like to thank everyone involved with making this event a reality and to the community itself for welcoming our organization and this patriotic and educational event into Johnstown.
We'd like to first thank the members of the Johnstown Community Sportsman's Club for its sponsorship and coordination efforts toward this event and for providing a wonderful venue. The club's support, hard work and dedication were essential to a successful event, and this event would not have been possible without them.
We'd also like to extend our gratitude to all event volunteers to include the set-up and tear-down crews, locator volunteers, security personnel and the event committee members. We'd like to thank those who took time to participate in the honor escort ride Wednesday and thank Indian Mound Mall for providing the staging location. We'd like to thank those who took part in the various ceremonies throughout the event's duration.
We also extend our gratitude to Cherry Valley Lodge for providing the lodging for AVTT staff during the event. There were so many people involved with this event, and we are grateful to everyone.
We must take a moment to thank and remember a very special man, Mr. Bill Earlewine. Bill was a WWII veteran and member of the Sportsman's Club who spearheaded the idea of bringing the AVTT Traveling Wall to Johnstown. Bill passed away Saturday evening after leaving the event location. He was 88. His service and support are appreciated, and he will not be forgotten: Honor, respect, remember.
Thank you, Johnstown, for welcoming us into your community and for taking the tim to pay tribute to our active duty, veteran and fallen heroes.
We very much look forward to returning to Johnstown in the future.
