Dedication, hard work produced fantastic Fourth
To the Editor:
Congratulations to the residents of Upper Arlington on another wonderful July 4th celebration.
This year's theme of Boulevard of the Stars was brought alive through the hundreds of parade participants, the many outstanding neighborhood floats and the military, police and fire representatives who made their way down Northwest Boulevard. Another rocking Party in the Park was capped by a stunning fireworks display.
A little rain could not dampen the enthusiasm and spirit of UA and the result was another fantastic July 4 celebration.
We have many wonderful people to thank.
As always, our celebration was sponsored by the Upper Arlington Civic Association. Funding was made possible through the generous contributions of UACA members during "The Walk" membership drive. Staffing for the day's festivities was provided by the hardworking UACA directors and junior directors, under the outstanding leadership of UACA President Peter Walsh.
The UA Police Division, UA Fire Division, Parks Division, Streets Division and City Manager's Office deserve special thanks for their efforts leading up to and on July 4. Each and every year, they help the day run smoothly and safely.
A special thank you goes out to Kyle Andrews (military), Ron Johnson (Party in the Park host), Bob Davidek (wake-up calls), Bill Hall (fireworks), Belu/Mueller families (veterans' breakfast) and Ben Berens (logo design).
On a special note, Josh Gille who had spent many decades coordinating antique cars in the parade, recently passed away and was truly missed this year.
Many businesses and individuals donated products or services throughout the summer and on July 4. Thanks to: Griffin Paving/Striping, Brian McGuire Landscaping, Grassroots Irrigation, Donatos Pizza, Giant Eagle, Graeter's Ice Cream, Rent-a-Johns, Golf Car Co., Macy's, Kingsdale Shopping Center, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Arlington Towing, Starbucks, Panera Bread, St. Agatha Parish, and the UA Public Library.
Lastly, organizing large events such as the UA Fourth of July parade and Party in the Park require a great deal of organization and dedication, and we would like to thank our fellow committee members for their hard work. This year's committee included Mike and Kris Ferraro, Larry and Jennifer Jupp, and Mike and Lisa Fitzpatrick. It was a true pleasure working with such a great committee.
We wish you well as you plan another great Fourth of July celebration in 2014.
