To the Editor:
In response to Melissa Cochran's statement, that New Albany doesn't seem to be "dog friendly" after her kennel wasn't approved by the New Albany Planning Commission ("Planning commission nixes kennel on Peter Hoover Road," ThisWeek New Albany News, Aug. 29), she should know that the Franklin County Auditor's Office records show that New Albany has more than 2,000 dog-license holders.
That's approximately one dog per family. Whether you attend the Founders Day celebration, the new Fourth of July 5K Run and Walk, the Thursday evening farmers market or walk the miles of trails, you will undoubtedly see a variety of breeds on leashes with their owners.
Ask anyone about their canine pet, and their response will inevitably be, "They are part of our family."
We may not need a kennel in our town, but we love our dogs.
