More than 1,000 people attended Touch-a-Truck

To the Editor:

On behalf of the New Albany Public Service Department, I want to thank the New Albany community for making our Touch-a-Truck event such a big success.

More than 1,000 people came out on a beautiful day Saturday, Aug. 24, to attend this first-time event to let their kids literally climb all over police vehicles, fire trucks, dump trucks, tractors and snowplows.

Throughout the festivities, our police department staff was busy registering children for the Ident-a-Kid program and the Plain Township Fire Department had its safety house on hand to teach families home-safety tips.

Hopefully along the way, the parents who attended with their children also picked up some useful information and learned more about the equipment we use year-round to maintain the community.

What a fantastic day, and we'll find ways to make the event even better next year. See you then.
