Mitchell's dedication to family proves he's ready for office
To the Editor:
This letter is to encourage every voter in Liberty Township to vote for Tom Mitchell for township trustee Nov. 5.
My friendship with Tom and his family began six years ago as I provided care and support for his severely disabled father-in-law. This unique opportunity allowed me to observe Tom and his family daily for three years. From the beginning, I was in awe of the way he not only moved his in-laws into his home, but also constructed a totally handicapped-accessible living space for them. I saw Tom's gentle love and dedication as he helped his father-in-law with every basic human need, from eating to using the bathroom to tucking him in bed at night. Tom never complained but looked at the service as an honor.
From my initial visit, Tom created a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. I admired the way he worked full time as a new professor at OSU, trying to achieve tenure while making the time to be with his two sons and wife, as well as volunteer in his community. I witnessed his enthusiasm while organizing and participating in all their Boy Scout events, which included becoming a leader, weekend camping and summers of High Adventure hiking mountains in Philmont, N.M., and canoeing the lakes at the Algonquin park in Canada. Even more, I worked alongside Tom and his family on several early Christmas mornings in downtown Columbus as we handed homeless men and families cups of coffee without judgment as they waited for a meal.
If able to serve as Liberty Township trustee, Tom Mitchell will embrace that role with the same dedication that he shows his family and community. His eagerness to serve others his true nature and will enable him to effectively lead our township to accomplishments that will benefit all residents.
