Easier approval offered to latest veterinary plans

To the Editor:

I was surprised to read in the Oct. 17 edition of ThisWeek Upper Arlington News of the intended expansion of the veterinary hospital located north of Lane Avenue on North Star.

My deceased husband, Dr. H.R. Monfort, with great desire and determination, fought long and hard to finally gain approval for the construction of this first veterinary hospital in Arlington.

There were skeptics, and rightly so, as it was an unknown. Now, a half-century later, there is total acceptance, plans, encouragement. Isn't this a nice story? Call it progress!

At the time that ground was broken in February 1964, there were many more regulations and restrictions -- signs even (were) prohibited. The size of the present building was the maximum allowed. At the architect's advice, the foundation was upgraded to satisfy a second story.

My husband retired at 1991's end and Dr. Rebecca Miller, continuing her employment there, became the second owner.

Now, Dr. Parson and affiliate, Apple Veterinary Hospital of Grandview, you have my best wishes in your upcoming endeavor.
