McCord drama club's performance was treat

To the Editor:

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra offered another entertaining "Concerts for Kids" on Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Riffe Center, conducted by Albert-George Schram.

Students from the after-school drama club at McCord Middle School were showcased performing Peter and the Wolf.

What a treat!

If I understood correctly, these seventh- and eighth-graders had not seen the stage until the morning of the concert. This was a huge leap from the school cafeteria setting to a professional stage. One can only imagine what they must have felt when they first viewed the impressive tiered seating. As Sean Clark narrated, this middle school drama group brought the ages-old tale to life. The costumes and makeup added to the beauty of the performance.

These young students demonstrated a poise and talent of much older performers.

As impressive as their performance was, it was equally impressive to talk with them in the receiving line following the concert. They maintained their professional conduct and talked with ease to the adults who were congratulating them.

Kudos to the two teachers who direct this drama club. The Worthington City School District should be proud to have these students and teachers representing them.
