Snow piles block access to city's fire hydrants

To the Editor:

Residents take fire hydrants for granted until one is needed due to a house fire. Residents should look at the closest hydrant to their home, and, if needed, shovel the snow away from the hydrant to allow firefighters easy access.

This is a safety issue that should be considered when snow is as high as it is has been over the last two weeks.
