Rick Ferkel, who coached the girls junior varsity girls basketball team last season at Worthington Kilbourne after previously being an assistant at three other schools, was offered and accepted the girls coaching job at Bexley High School on June 19.

Ferkel will replace Wade Brockwell, who left last month to take over at Pickerington Central. Ferkel, a 1998 Sycamore Mohawk graduate, will be a varsity head coach for the first time. Last season, Bexley went 18-5 and finished second at 12-2 in the MSL-Ohio Division. The Lions won Division II district championships in 2003 and 2004 under Brockwell and were district semifinalists last season.

Ferkel also previously assisted in girls basketball at Hilliard Davidson and in boys basketball at Bellevue and Arcadia.
