"The Torch," Bexley High School's student newspaper, has received the Golden Flash award from the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA) for the 2007-08 school year.

"The Torch," Bexley High School's student newspaper, has received the Golden Flash award from the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA) for the 2007-08 school year.

The paper was one of only two student papers to receive the award, which is the highest given by the OSMA.

An additional 21 members of the paper's staff received a total of 43 individual awards for writing, photography and design. Award winners were: Drew Davis, William Lesser, Tim Nassau, Lucy First, Adrienne Liefeld, Brynn Kolada, Janet Stewart, Robert Moore, Paige Phillips, Libby Ashton, Lucy Freccia, Zach Fries, Alexis Gutter, Melissa Hart, Lauren Hepler, Jessica Kirschner, Louie Poczik, Adam Sharp, Hannah Wendling, Grace Curran, and Nick Kolada.

A number of Bexley Middle School students recently earned awards on the National Latin Exam, which covers grammar, vocabulary, derivatives and culture.

Seventh-grade award winners were: Peter Kirschner, Elizabeth Maher, Arye Smith, Thomas Krajnak, Andrew Ours, Daniel Peck, Elena Zervas, Wyatt Peery and Elijah Grantham. Eighth-grade award winners were: Max Lee, Sam Beech, Ryder Douglas, Sirrus Lawson-Bourne, Bill Farrar, John Philips, Nicholas Locke, Kelsey Davidson, Sydney Turoff and Morgan Simmons.

The Bexley school district has recognized several students with its "Keymaker Award," given to students who have brought recognition to the district with their accomplishments.

The following students received the award: Adam Berman, for his election as international president of the United Synagogue Youth, the high school youth group of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism; Simon Lusher, who will exhibit work at the 28th annual Young People's Art Exhibition; Gracie Burford, whose art was accepted in the 2008 OAEA's Youth Art Month Exhibition; Lorenzo Pipino, Mary Massarelli and Sierra Arvin, who will have their art displayed at the 2008 Central Ohio Regional Art Exhibition; and Yulia Coburn, Ari Gabel and Lydia Hopmann, who will be honored for their inclusion in the Ohio Governor's Youth Art Central Region Exhibition.
