The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus, 1125 College Ave., will offer a series of courses designed specifically for adults. The courses will begin Jan. 5.

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus, 1125 College Ave., will offer a series of courses designed specifically for adults. The courses will begin Jan. 5.

Basic drawing will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Jan. 6-Feb. 10. The class is designed for beginners who want to work on fundamental drawing skills, such as line drawing, use of negative space, placement of objects, still-life perspective and color.

Israeli folk dance will be offered from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 13-March 3. Neev and Noga Granite will teach this collective form of dance.

A clay and wine class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 8-Feb. 12. Gain knowledge of the basic technique of sculpting clay, including slab, coil, molds, pinched forms, sculpting and glazing. Pre-thrown clay pieces will be available to paint and glaze. The evenings will also include wine-tasting.

Oil painting will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 5-Feb. 16. The class will provide a foundation for the fundamentals of painting with oils. It will cover working from the figure, still life and abstraction, as well as illustrating light and shadow and developing a personal style. Class is suitable for beginners and those with painting experience.

Women can learn basic techniques of self-defense from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 5-Feb. 16. Build self-confidence, control, discipline, coordination, strength and agility.

A kosher cooking class with JCC chef Tony Robertson is planned in February.
