Bexley High School juniors Erin Kellogg and Jesse Vogel have been recognized with 2009 National Scholastic Art & Writing awards.

Bexley High School juniors Erin Kellogg and Jesse Vogel have been recognized with 2009 National Scholastic Art & Writing awards.

Kellogg earned a gold medal for her personal essay/memoir "Bourbon, Puzzles, Novels, Smokes and Scrabble." Vogel won a silver medal for his personal essay/memoir "A Day in the Streets."

Both students will travel to New York City with BHS English teacher Denise Novak, who submitted their work. They will be honored at a Carnegie Hall ceremony.

More than 140,000 works of art and writing were submitted to regional programs of the scholastic awards. Kellogg and Vogel are among 1,000 teenagers receiving national awards.

Bexley United Methodist Preschool will host a "BUMP is Blooming" fundraiser from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 16.

The party will be held in the backyard of the Parkview Avenue home of Lisa Berger and Peter Lusenhop.

Guests will enjoy dinner, live music and a silent auction. Tasi Rigsby and Pistacia Vera will provide the food.

Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Event proceeds will support Spanish and music classes and other enrichment activities at the school.
