The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission has scheduled free activities throughout June as part of "Riverfest On Tour."

To kick off the month-long celebration of water, MORPC will host COSI Family Friday Night and WaterFire from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 29. COSI attendees will be invited into the Extreme Screen Theatre for free popcorn, trivia games, prizes and a showing of "Grand Canyon Adventure: Rivers at Risk."

Throughout the month-long celebration, free activities will include canoe, kayak and pontoon boat rides, kite flying, fishing and more.

Sites throughout central Ohio will host "Riverfest On Tour" events, including Hoover and Griggs reservoirs, various Metro Parks, Dawes Arboretum, Upper Arlington's Thompson Park and the Ohio 4-H Center.

Connells Maple Lee Flowers and Gifts and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio have partnered to raise money for the nonprofit.

Connells Maple Lee has created a custom Web site,, for supporters of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

For all flowers and gifts purchased on the Web site, Connells Maple Lee donates 20 percent to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

"It's a win for all parties involved and great example of our local business community stepping up to the plate to support our local nonprofits year-round," Jamie Foltz, development director for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, was quoted as saying in the announcement.

Greg Royer, president of Connells Maple Lee, said that giving back to the community has always been an important part of his company's success.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio provides a home-away-from-home for families with seriously ill children receiving treatment at local hospitals.

The Central Ohio Diabetes Association is accepting applications for its summer day camps for youth with diabetes.

Camps are held at the Hoover Y Park just south of Columbus.

Kids Camp, for children ages 3 to 7, will meet from June 15-17. The program encourages campers to explore their potential, try different activities, build friendships and learn about diabetes. Siblings and parents are encouraged to be involved in the daily camp experience.

The cost to attend Kids Camp is $95 per child. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. The camp includes a free diabetes education session for parents.

Stepping Stones, to be held June 18-20, is an introductory program for youth with diabetes ages 8 to 12 who want to try an overnight camping experience before moving up to residential camp. The cost to attend is $120 per child.

Camp Hamwi, located in Danville, is CODA's residential camp for children ages 7 to 17.

The central Ohio region of the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana is seeking individuals to participate in its 10th annual Walk for Wishes.

The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Creekside Park, 123 Mill St., in Gahanna. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.

Walkers may participate as individuals or pair up with co-workers, friends or family to form a team. The entire route is handicapped accessible.

Following the walk, participants are invited to a Wish Reunion Celebration at Creekside featuring games, food and entertainment.

Financial support generated by the Walk for Wishes will provide the funding needed to grant the wishes of more than 100 children on the waiting list for wishes in central Ohio. Participants who raise $100 or more will receive a T-shirt. Individuals can donate funds by visiting
