Michael Price has been named recreation and parks director by Bexley's recreation board.

Price has served as interim director since January, when Doug Jackson was asked to step down and was laid off by the recreation board in an effort to cut expenses.

"This is obviously a field I have enjoyed and something I have doing for a number of years," Price said. "I am very fond of the city of Bexley."

Recreation board member Rick Shapiro said Price's performance in the interim position demonstrated that he had the skill set to take over the position full time.

"He has done a tremendous job in the few months he was interim," Shapiro said.

Mayor John Brennan agreed that Price was right for the job.

"I wholeheartedly agree with the recommendation to appoint Michael Price recreation director," he said. "He has been around Bexley all his life."

Brennan said Price will take over as recreation director July 1 with a starting salary of $60,000 per year.

The recreation board has the authority to hire and fire the recreation director, Shapiro said.
