Work on Bexley sidewalks could begin within the next two weeks.

Bexley service director Bill Harvey said the city awarded the bid to C&G Cement Contractors. The company submitted a bid for $629,700. City engineer estimates for the improvements were $862,060.

The city received seven bids for the sidewalk improvements.

Last year, Bexley City Council committed to replacing sidewalks at a cost of $1-million.

Council president Matt Lampke said the city's controlling board approved the contract with C&G Cement Contractors, whose bid was about $170,000 less than the second lowest bid. Shelly & Sands Inc. committed to do the work for $800,935.

Harvey said work should start on sidewalks within the next couple of weeks. He expects to have a preconstruction meeting with the contractor next week.
