Bexley school board president Andrew Sutter was expected to ask the board Monday night to extend Superintendent Mike Johnson's contract by three years, according to a school district news release.

Johnson is about to complete the third year of his five-year contract. He has been with the district since 2001.

Last year, Johnson was among the six finalists considered for the position of state school superintendent.

The Bexley school district has received an Ohio Department of Education rating of "excellent" every year that Johnson has been superintendent.

The school board recently reviewed Johnson's performance, praising his leadership and willingness to address difficult issues.

"We need to retain for the long haul a superintendent who is intimately familiar with Bexley and its schools and who will not shy away from the challenges that will confront the educational community in the years to come; someone who has experience in delivering high quality educational services in a cost-effective manner," Sutter said.
