Bexley High School athletics director Molly Fessler announced Tom Marker, a former assistant at Grove City, has been named baseball coach.

Marker, a seventh-grade teacher at Rosemore Middle School, was the head coach at Independence from 2006-08. He previously was an assistant at Whitehall and Ready.

"His knowledge and his enthusiasm were the two things that made him stand out," Fessler said. "When he was at Independence, he put in place some programs that helped increase the number of kids that came out for the high school program. He's a great educator and teacher."

Marker was named the district's Educator of the Year in 2008.

Marker, who was a pitcher at Capital University from 2000-03, replaces interim coach Harley Williams, who guided the Lions to a 7-13 finish after losing to DeSales 4-3 in the second round of the Division II tournament. Williams replaced first-year coach Scott Brewer, who was released from his contract early in the season.
