Vendors participating in this year's Jeffrey Shop Hop will offer ironwork, home accessories, custom stationery and aromatherapy candles.

The Shop Hop will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 6-7 at Jeffrey Mansion, 165 N. Parkview. This is the sixth year for the Shop Hop, which raises scholarship funds for Bexley Recreation Department programs. Admission is $5.

Recreation supervisor Barb Greiner said the recreation department has given out about $14,000 in scholarships this year for recreation programs, including summer camp tuition and pool memberships. The department has helped about 50 families in 2009, she said.

"The lion share (of scholarship money) is for the summer camp," Greiner said

Residents can fill out a form for financial assistance, but a majority of the scholarship recipients are referred by Bexley City Schools and Columbus City Schools teachers or guidance counselors, she said.

Last year's Shop Hop raised about $9,000 for scholarships, Greiner said. It is important to note that scholarships are funded by community dollars and not taxpayer money, she said.

"We are addressing social concerns with private dollars," she said.

Event chairwoman Karen Page said 26 vendors are participating in this year's event. There are many new vendors this year, she said, including home furnishing vendor Collier West and aromatherapy candle vendor Paul Robinette.

Participants include retailers like Abrash Gallerie from Cleveland and Khakis from Cincinnati, Page said, adding the whole idea of the Shop Hop is to bring a unique shopping experience to Bexley residents.

"There are some different, unique and eclectic items," Page said.

Vendors benefit by having 800 to 1,000 people participate in the event throughout the weekend, Page said. Booths rent for $160 to $600, she said.

Organizers are excited about the "Vegas-style" patron preview party from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 5. Tickets to the vendor party are $50. The party offers an exclusive shopping opportunity, food and a silent auction, Page said.

"It is going to be a really fun evening," she said. "We usually have a preview party, but it is strictly shopping. This year we added some fun."

The grand prize for the evening is $250 in Shop Hop money to be used at the event, Page said.
