Rock 'n' Bowl 2010, a fundraiser for the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Children's Hospital, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace, 5707 Forrest Hills Blvd.

Last year's Rock 'n' Bowl had more than 600 participants and raised more than $100,000, according to the announcement.

Check-in begins at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. for the first, second and third sessions of the event. Five bowlers can represent a team, and raise $500 or more during two hours of bowling.

The deadline for online registration is Friday, Jan. 29.


The annual Art Studio Clearance Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Lausche Building on the Ohio State Fairgrounds.

The event will feature art and craft works by 150 artists. Items will be sold at approximately 20 to 40 percent below normal prices.

Items will include blown glass, fine wearables, wheel-thrown pottery, jewelry, painting and photography. Shoppers will be able to purchase directly from the artists, who can explain the ideas and processes that went into creating the work.

Admission is $6 for the general public. Children 12 and younger are admitted free.

New Directions Career Center, 199 E. Rich St., is offering scholarships to individuals interested in attending its core career development program in February.

Courses will be offered on a sliding fee scale.


Creating Career Options will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, and Wednesday, Feb. 3. The final class meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6.

Students will learn new ways to use their professional experience.

Advanced Career Techniques will provide information on rsum development, job search strategies, interviewing skills and salary negotiation methods. It will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 8-10.

New Directions is a class for women seeking personal and professional transformation.

This four-week program will begin Feb. 17 and will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, until March 12.
