The Bexley Board of Education will hold a special board meeting at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 23 in the Cassingham Complex Community Room, 326 S. Cassingham Road, to name a new board member.

Diane Peterson, a member of the board since 2002, announced Feb. 14 that she was resigning effective Feb. 28 due to personal reasons.

School board member Craig Halliday said the board has approached a former board member who will likely be appointed at the meeting to replace Peterson. He would not say who the appointee would be.

According to state law, the board must appoint a replacement within 30 days of the effective date of Peterson's resignation.

State law also dictates that because more than half of Peterson's term remains, the person appointed to the board can only service through December 31, 2011. Therefore, a two-year term for the unexpired portion of her term will be on the ballot in November.
