Laura Lipsett was hired April 25 by the Bexley City School District Board of Education to serve as the new director of curriculum.

Lipsett begins her new duties with the start of the 2011-12 school year. Her first day on the job will be Aug. 1.

Lipsett has served as coordinator of curriculum and instruction in Westerville City Schools since 2005. She previously worked for the Ohio Department of Education and taught as an adjunct professor in various higher education settings.

She earned a Ph.D. in educational studies from Ohio State University and has experience teaching a number of subjects in seventh- through 12th-grade classrooms.

"Dr. Lipsett is everything we have wanted in the position of curriculum director," said Superintendent Michael Johnson. "Our selection committee was impressed by her credentials and experience. She possesses all of the skills and knowledge needed to ensure that our school district maintains its excellent reputation as a premier school district in the state and nation."

Lipsett takes over for Anne Hyland, who retired after 42 years in the education field, with 25 of those in Bexley Schools. This year Hyland accepted a post-retirement, one-year contract in order to maintain the level of district programs while Johnson conducted a search for her replacement.

The school district received 107 resumes for the curriculum director position. Teams of faculty, administrators and community members met with six finalists for the position and provided feedback to Johnson prior to his recommending Dr. Lipsett to the board.
