Kathryn Scurci, a graduate of Bexley High School, received a bachelor's degree from College of the Atlantic following the 2010-2011 academic year.

As with all students at College of the Atlantic, Scurci's degree is in human ecology. This pursuit required her to create an independent course of study within an interdisciplinary curriculum, to examine the relationship between humans and the environment.

All COA students must complete a term-long project before graduation. For her project, Scurci worked with killer whales, studying the emotional content of their vocalizations. Scurci also worked as a crew member at the college's research station on Mount Desert Rock, and interned at Allied Whale conducting photo-ID research on humpback and tin whales. She presented her research at two professional marine mammal meetings.

She is the daughter of Judy and Mark Scurci of Bexley.
