Nine candidates met the noon Feb. 24 filing deadline to fill the city council vacancy created after Ben Kessler was named mayor Feb. 6.

The field of candidates includes John G. Adams, Lori Ann Feibel, Katharine C. Giller, Richard Lange, Anne Rath Lewis, Chester T. Lyman Jr., Peter V. Roberts, Howard Schnitz and Jan Zupnick.

Kessler vacated his seat on city council on Feb. 6 when he was elected by his fellow council members to replace the late Mayor John Brennan. Council President Rick Weber said he is confident council will be able to fill the vacancy within the 60-day period permitted by the city charter.

Once the application deadline has passed, city council members will review the list of candidates and conduct brief individual interviews. A date for those interviews is yet to be announced.
