A blue Bexley zoning sign could be coming to a front yard near you.

The city hopes a new program will help better inform residents of proposed legislation, including zoning changes, and give them easy access to information.

A dozen reusable signs have been ordered. The city is modeling its program after other communities that use similar signs such as Dublin, New Albany and Worthington.

"Anytime you'd have an application that requires a public hearing, that's when you'd use it," said Bexley Mayor Ben Kessler.

The signs, which will be placed in front of the property prior to the public hearing, will also have a quick response -- or QR -- code allowing users with smart phones to instantly access information, including the complete zoning application, via the city website.

The city's webpage dedicated to pending applications, bexley.org/applications, also will be listed on the signs.

The signs will be used in addition to letters that are mailed to surrounding property owners.

"It's providing just another form of good communication," Kessler said. "It gives people a really clear place to go to get more information. It's much more powerful when residents can go right to the source and see the entire application."
