Stinziano to serve in newly created seat


Following a decisive win in the race for the newly created 18th District Ohio House of representatives seat Nov. 6, Democrat Mike Stinziano pledge to work on job creation and improvements in neighborhood safety.

The reconfigured 18th district includes Bexley, Olde Towne East, German Village, the Short North, Grandview Heights, the University District, Merion Village and Franklinton.

Stinziano is the current 25th District state representative. According to final, unofficial results from the Franklin County Board of Elections, Stinziano had 33,380 votes or 73 percent, compared to Republican challenger Bill Colgan's 12,101 votes, or 27 percent.

"In asking for your vote, I pledged to continue to work hard to make our community the best place to live, work, start a business and raise a family in Ohio," Stinziano said in his victory speech. "I am committed to providing you with pragmatic, innovative, and effective leadership at the Statehouse and will continue to champion legislation to create jobs in our community, improve neighborhood safety, and fight for hardworking taxpayers, for our seniors and for our kids."

Stinziano also promised to participate in bipartisan solutions.

"As your state representative, I will work across the aisle to find common sense solutions to overcome the problems that face us today to build a better, brighter future for us all."

Stinziano, 33, is an attorney. He holds a law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law; a master's degree in public administration from George Washington University; and a bachelor's degree in leadership studies from the University of Richmond.

He is married to Caroline McNamee Stinziano. They live in the Short North with their rescue pugs, Wrigley and Fenway.

He has served one term as state representative for the 25th Ohio House District (2011-present) and was director of the Franklin County Board of Elections from 2008-2010.

Colgan, 37, is a Grandview resident. He is a mechanical engineer and has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. technology.
