$2.6 million expansion, remodel

Town & Country Kroger store reopens with events, samples

The Kroger store at the Town & Country Shopping Center formally will showcase its $2.6 million expansion and remodel during a public open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11.

The remodeled 68,000-square-foot store, at 3675 E. Broad St., began in September 2012. The store remained open during the renovation, which includes the addition of the Kosher "Matt's Bakery."

This Whitehall store -- the other one is at 850 S. Hamilton Road -- was built in October 1997 for a store at 120 Robinwood Avenue, according to Jackie Siekmann, Kroger's media- and government-relations manager. It was remodeled in 2004. Last year, a minor remodel was done to add kosher products and expand the pharmacy. Then the complete remodel began in September, she said.

"We look at competition in the area, as well as demographics and store age, to make sure we are keeping our stores fresh and taking care of our customer," Siekmann said.

The Town & County Kroger employs two full-time Mashgichim, who supervise production of kosher foods at the store, which now offers additional frozen and kosher food selections.

Customers could select kosher pizzas, rotisserie chicken and sushi, along with meat and wines.

The remodel also showcases an expanded produce section, a larger floral variety, an expanded pharmacy, a larger liquor department and upgraded decor throughout the store.

"We have a wide variety of customers who shop at this location (and) listened to feedback from those customers, (providing) products and furnishings that will make them want to shop at Kroger again," Shawn Simmermon, store manager, said in a corporate press release announcing the grand reopening and open house.

The April 11 open house and grand reopening will feature entertainment for children and food sampling in a variety of departments.
