Cassingham Elementary School will present its "Artsy Open House" at 5:30 p.m. May 9, at 250 S Cassingham Road.
The event begins with dinner, lasting until 6:30 p.m., and then moves into open classrooms, exhibitions and performances until 8 p.m. Visual arts projects will be displayed around the school, including the glazed clay sea turtles created by second-graders from their unit about three-dimensional building skills.
In Deborah Forsblom's music room, first-graders will present their 10-minute version of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar starting at 6 p.m.
Student Council will hold a flower sale during Open House to raise funds for Cassingham's Molly Davis Memorial Garden. Groundbreaking for the garden that honors the late fifth-grade teacher is scheduled during the school's annual Memorial Day observance on May 24.
The Maryland Arts Extravaganza also is set for May 9, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the school, 2754 Maryland Ave. Besides each student being represented by art exhibited around the building, the school's physical education and music classes will demonstrate some of their learning in the gym.
