The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus is planning several 100th anniversary activities to coincide with the July Fourth weekend, including an open house and a campground celebration.
Events will start Thursday, July 4, with the Bexley Fourth of July Parade. Members past and present are invited to walk alongside the JCC 100 float. Participants are encouraged to wear a vintage JCC T-shirt and meet at 9 a.m. at the parade line-up at the corner of Maryland Avenue and Remington Road.
After the parade, visitors are invited to stop by the JCC on College Avenue for an open house at 4 p.m. A tour showcasing all the updated features of the expanded facilities, including the new J-Zone, gym and enlarged fitness area, will be offered.
In addition, a group will gather for the Bexley fireworks at 9:30 p.m. July 4. Participants should plan on bringing a blanket or chairs and meet in front of Graeter's Ice Cream on East Main Street. From there, the gathering will find a spot to enjoy the fireworks.
On Friday, July 5, the JCC is hosting a campground celebration from noon to 1 p.m. Members and their guests are invited to come to the JCC campgrounds for an hour of nostalgia that will bring back memories of camp and summer fun.
The reunion weekend fun continues from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, July 5, when current and former BBYO and teen club members are invited to reunite at the JCC. This will be a time to visit with old friends and honor the advisers who made teen club programming special.
Those who remember the bowling lanes in the former Jewish Center can reminisce Sunday, July 7, as they gather around a game of ten-pins. From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be a tournament at Holiday Lanes, 4589 E. Broad St. Kosher breakfast will be served.
