To ensure that fire hydrants throughout the city are working properly, the Bexley Water Department will begin flushing the hydrants the week of Aug. 5.

One crew will be assigned to the area south of Main Street and one to the area of north of Broad Street, continuing work each day until all hydrants have been flushed. The work is expected to take one week.

While the hydrants are being flushed, residents may find their water is cloudy and discolored, but water department officials say the water is safe to drink.

However, residents are cautioned not to wash clothes if the water is discolored. To test for discoloration, run cold water for about two minutes.

A daily schedule for water flushing is available on the city's website, bexley.org. For more information, call the Bexley Water Department at 614-559-4270.
