Leadership Columbus class of 2014
* Leadership Columbus has announced its class of 2014.
The 10-month program, designed to develop, connect and inspire emerging and existing leaders in the Columbus area, selected 54 individuals from a pool of candidates to participate. Selection is made based on qualifications and commitment to the community.
The class includes Bexley resident Jack Gravelle, senior associate with Porter Wright Morris and Arthur LLP.
* John (Jack) and Ruth Beckman of Bexley were recently named as the 2013 Dei Gratia Award recipients by the Catholic Foundation.
The Dei Gratia award annually recognizes an individual or family for their faith, generosity and leadership in the Catholic community.
For many years, Mr. Beckman served on the Bishop Hartley Athletic Association board and was chairman of the Bishop Hartley festival. Additionally, he worked bingo at Bishop Hartley and Christ the King, and helped with the football team. He was a trainer for the altar servers at Christ the King Parish, where he also volunteered as an usher, altar server, extraordinary minister and a member of the collection team. For more than 25 years he also volunteered as an altar server and extraordinary minister at St. Joseph Cathedral. He continues to volunteer weekly at St. Lawrence Haven and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mrs. Beckman is the director of the Joint Organization for Inner-City Needs office of the Diocese of Columbus, working with the office since 1981. She also spent much of her time volunteering at Bishop Hartley and Christ the King schools, teaching physical education at Christ the King when the school did not have a teacher. She also works for the Board of Elections twice a year.
