Farley family gives back by hosting drive
The American Red Cross will accept blood donations as part of the Farley Family Celebration of Life from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2420 Bryden Road.
Bexley resident Jillian Farley experienced complications when she delivered her son in 2007. She began bleeding and needed to receive 28 pints of blood to survive. She used all available blood at Grant Medical Center, so the hospital had to request additional units from the American Red Cross.
The average human body holds about 10 pints of blood. She acknowledged had donors not given blood that week, doctors would not have had the resources that saved her. Given her experience and the role the Red Cross played in saving her life, Farley began volunteering with the American Red Cross in March 2009.
Those who last gave blood on or before Aug. 17, may be eligible to donate. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-733-2767 and use the sponsor code Farley.
