Congregation Agudas Achim will honor Robin Judd and Kenny Steinman at its fourth annual Scholarship Brunch that will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 12, at the synagogue, 2767 E. Broad St.
Judd and Steinman are being honored for their commitment to educational programming initiatives for all ages at Agudas Achim, as well as in the Jewish and general community. Proceeds from the brunch will be used for scholarships for Agudas Achim youth to attend Jewish Summer Camps and educational programs for youth and adults at Agudas Achim.
Judd is a professor of Modern Jewish and European History at Ohio State University and is author of Contested Rituals: Circumcision, Kosher Butchering, and German-Jewish Political Life in Germany, 1843-1933, as well as several articles concerning Jewish history, gender history, and ritual behavior. Judd regularly participates in services at Agudas Achim, including serving as gabbai, reading Torah and leading services. This year she led a highly acclaimed study session on Yom Kippur.
Steinman is an independent consultant who works with agencies and communities to write grants, conduct rigorous, relevant research and manage complex projects. He has taught at the Hebrew University Hadassah Braun School of Public Health in Jerusalem and served on the faculty at the Ohio State University College of Public Health for 11 years. Steinman currently serves as a vice president on the Agudas Achim board of trustees. His education involvements with the shul include teaching at the Tikkun Layl Shavuot and teen workshops on the High Holidays. He regularly participates in the Shabbat afternoon Woodchoppers Talmud Study.
Individual tickets for the brunch cost $40. Sponsorship levels are available, ranging from $125 to $500.
